It’s More Than History: It’s Your Story
A workshop about the Self and Ancestry
Have you ever wondered how family events that took place before you were born factor into who you are today?
Studies suggest we carry the trauma of our ancestors who lived even hundreds of years ago in our bodies today, potentially influencing our personality and behavior. For example, the trauma of slavery can be expressed in descendants of slaves as post-traumatic stress disorder today. Similarly, research has shown that children of holocaust survivors are affected by the trauma their parents experienced either subconsciously or simply through hearing stories about it.
An understanding of one’s ancestry can help you gain deeper insight into your own behavior and personality. Join sisters Debbie Quackenbush, Ph.D. and Melissa Quackenbush, LMSW for a two-part online workshop about the intergenerational transmission of personality.
Workshop objectives:
•Gain knowledge of Jungian and epigenetics models of the transmission of personality in extended family
•Gain knowledge about common themes that are transmitted through ancestry (such as the anniversary effect and hidden loyalties)
•Learn tools to create your own genogram -- an enhanced family tree enhanced that also includes shared history, including mental health
•Participate in group work to dive more deeply into intergenerational transmission in your own family
